Re: 2006 GCSS Annual Conference in Athens. We are 40 years old!!!!

Please join us for our special anniversary celebration this year at the Classic Center in Athens on October 19 and 20, 2006. The Georgia Council for the Social Studies (GCSS) is 40 years old! Our attendance has been steadily increasing every year, with 700+ participants in 2005. In addition, the training phase for implementation of the new GPS (Georgia Performance Standards) will begin in 2006, and should attract even more teachers to the social studies conference. Dr. Bill Cranshaw, the State Social Studies Coordinator, will be a featured speaker at GCSS.

We will be sending out a preview bulletin for the first time to give teachers advance notification of what to expect at the conference. We have already received over 50 proposals for new and innovative sessions that will add something fresh, exciting, and inviting to the conference. And because of the tremendous response to the free time for participants to visit the exhibit hall we will again include it in our schedule. It looks like a banner year! Please come and join us and help us celebrate!!!

EXHIBITS

Rental space is $300 per table without electricity and $325 per table with electricity. Each table is approximately 6 feet in length (some 8-foot tables are available upon request). Due to increasing costs for the conference we are raising our rate by $25 per space. We regret this increase, but have held our prices since 1997 and have no alternative at this time.

This fee also includes your conference registration and yearly membership in the Georgia Council for the Social Studies.

While GCSS does not anticipate any exhibit space shortage at the Classic Center, reservations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations for space must be received by June 1, 2006 to be listed in the new conference preview bulletin. To ensure exhibit space return the Exhibit Space Reservation Form at the earliest possible date. Refunds for cancellation can be provided until October 1, 2006.

A drawing for door prizes provided by exhibitors will be held and posted at the GCSS exhibit table. It has been a popular event in past years. Please identify any prize(s) you wish to give on the reservation form. Names of company providers of door prizes will be announced. You may leave the prizes at the GCSS table in the exhibit hall or a GCSS representative will visit your booth to collect the prizes.

CONFERENCE PROGRAM ADVERTISEMENTS

This year GCSS will send out a new conference preview bulletin in early August with an overview of this year's conference highlights and exhibitors. This bulletin will be mailed to several thousand council members, school districts, conference presenters, last yearÌs attendees, and exhibitors. The conference program will be distributed at the conference and will include the session descriptions, ads and all exhibitors, sponsors, etc. In addition, all conference related information will be on the council's website www.gcss.net.

Advertising space in the program is available to all publishers and providers of educational materials and programs. A company does not have to be a conference exhibitor to advertise in the conference program. The program will not only distributed to each conference attendee but also posted on the GCSS website. This means your program advertisement will reach educators across the entire state at a minimum cost!

Please use the attached Program Advertising Space Form to indicate your interest in advertising in the 2006 conference program and return by June 1, 2006. As you will notice, reduced rates for advertisements are offered to those who will also have exhibits at the conference.

Ad copy should be sent to Diane Sloan at disloan@charter.net by email or regular mail on CD-ROM by June 15, 2006.

SPONSORSHIPS

GCSS NEEDS SPONSORS FOR THE 2006 CONFERENCE!!! Please consider helping us make this a successful conference by being a sponsor. Any amount is appreciated. Included is a list of sponsorships available. If you are interested in being a sponsor please contact us.
